When I started training for the NJ Half Marathon back in January I was pretty bummed about my pace. I had lost so much fitness in the last few years. I knew it could only get better though, so I kept at it and little by little, I started to see small improvements.
I’ve been itching to run under 10 minute miles for a while now and it finally happened this week. I ran 3 miles at an average of 9:39/mile with my last mile being the fastest at a 9:30/mile pace. While it may not seem like much of an accomplishment to some people, I’m so pumped about it. It was such a breakthrough! A sign that if I keep on putting one foot in front of another, I can get back to my old pace.
In the words of the Boston Marathon champ Des Linden: “Keep showing up” and progress will come.
