When I started my fitness journey on January 1st, I knew I wanted to incorporate strength training, but I knew I couldn’t do it alone. I’ve never been great at being consistent with strength training, and I’ve always relied on trainers and workout partners for workouts and accountability. I wanted to find an app that I’d be able to use mainly at the gym but with the option of using it at home, too. I also knew I wanted an app that would have videos or pictures because I’d need the visuals to help me complete the exercises correctly.
I downloaded a bunch of different apps at the start of the year and somehow came across the Sweat app by Kayla Itsines. She is a fitness guru out of Australia and runs an amazing blog and online community. I downloaded the free trial and quickly discovered that it was exactly what I was looking for!
There are several programs you can choose from:
- BBG: for those who work out at home only
- BBG Stronger: for those who have access to a full gym
- PWR: a more advanced gym-based program
- Body and Mind: Vinyasa-style yoga
- Post-Pregnancy: for those looking to regain strength post-pregnancy
Once you’ve chosen a program, your weekly workouts will appear in your calendar according to day.
Once you choose that day’s workout, the app comes with great little videos that show you exactly what you should be doing. They also include written instructions if you need more guidance. Each week consists of cardio, resistance, and recovery workouts – a perfect balance of everything I wanted to do to get fit this year.
If you have an Apple Watch, you’ll love that you can run the app from your watch, too, and it syncs to the Activity app so you can keep track of your daily exercise goals.
